        HOLIDAY STOCKINGS FOR HEROES
While researching lifeline numbers and websites for military and veterans, I came across www.soldiersangels.org and thought it sounded like a great organization to help since they do so much for our military.

Please get involved too so we can show our military love, support, gratitude, and hope. It's easy to help and with prices & shipping costs rising I'm sure they need more people stepping up their kindness & generosity.


The number of people you get involved doesn't matter, it can be just you, your family, your business with employees, or your employer and coworkers - all can donate money or get involved with buying items for at least one holiday stocking. This seems like a really good way to help pay back our military for their services.

eventhough it may not be the holiday season when you come across this page, or the deadline has already past, you can still start now in getting stocking items or saving money to donate to Soldiers' Angels in November/December.

You can start early to avoid the November /December rush to buy items for your holiday stockings, or to realize you don't have enough money and not get a stocking sent off.

be bought, fundraisers can be held for raising the stocking items & shipping costs, and money donations can be made to Soldiers Angels, NOT Gallery Of Hope. By buying items or donating money throughout the year, we can  increase the number of service personal and veterans receiving holiday stockings.

Soldiers' Angels ship the holiday stockings to service members deployed to combat zones or in support of combat operations and veteran patients in VA Hospitals across the country. The stockings will also be shared with National Guard and Reserves Units across the country.

What do I do? It’s simple! Collect items from the list of suggested items, stuff them into a holiday stocking and send to Soldiers’ Angels. They will take care of the rest! It can be one stocking or many, depending on what you can afford.

If you’re coordinating a large group, consider hosting a collection drive for the items you will need. Once you have enough items collected, you and your group can come together in-person or virtually and stuff the stockings!
  • Stockings must be sent to the address provided to you by Soldiers’ Angels.
  • Participants are responsible for any and all shipping costs to get the stockings to the address provided by Soldiers’ Angels.
  • Please do not ship your stockings to Soldiers’ Angels Headquarters in San Antonio unless you are directed to do so by the coordinator.

TIP
During the Christmas holiday season you can plan ahead and buy items for the following year since winter gloves, socks, cards, travel-sized games, notepads, and holiday items are often on sale or heavily discounted, especially after Christmas. I do not recommend buying nuts, candy canes, or other food products for the following year, just non-perishable items.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR HOLIDAY STOCKING
A small card or handwritten note to let service members and veterans know you’re thinking of them, and any combination of the following items:
  • Slim Jims or Beef Jerky
  • Packages of Holiday nuts
  • Single serving drink mix packets (i.e. Crystal Light)
  • Playing cards
  • Puzzle book (Crosswords, Sudoku, Word Find)
  • Holiday-themed writing pens or pencil
  • Holiday candy (in sealed wrapping or small unopened bags)
  • Candy Canes
  • Peanut Brittle
  • Socks
  • Travel-sized games
  • Card games (Uno, Phase 10)
  • Stress balls (holiday-themed preferred)
  • Gloves (preferably black; winter; one size fits all)
  • Single serving cookie packages
  • Apple cider packets (must be in Ziploc baggies in case the packets break)
  • Hot chocolate (must be in Ziploc baggies in case the packets breaks)
  • Small notepads
  • Holiday-themed lip balm (wrapping and scent)
  • Caps (warm winter)
  • Other holiday-themed items
Please Note: All food items should be store-bought.

Please do not include these items:
  • NO GLASS (containers, ornaments, etc)
  • NO SHARP OBJECTS (safety pins, razors pocket knives)
  • NO PRODUCTS CONTAINING ALCOHOL (some mouthwash, hand sanitizer, some colognes)
  • NO AEROSOLS
  • NO HAND SANITIZER
  • NO GLITTER
  • NO BRANDED STOCKINGS with company/organization names, logos, etc.
  • NO political materials
Hint:
Deployed Service Members love to receive homemade cards, drawings, creations from the kiddos inside their stuffed stockings, so be sure to let them help too!
             SHIPPING INFO
Close your stocking so it doesn’t spill! Stockings need to be fastened at the top so items don’t spill during shipping.
Please DO NOT use staples or safety pins to close your stockings (not allowed in most VA Hospitals).
A couple of years ago, someone donated this stocking using a knit stocking cap as a closure and it was brilliant! This is our preferred method for you to close the stocking since it’s easy to remove and adds a useful extra item for the recipient(s).

Please ensure you carefully pack the holiday stockings box with newspaper, packing peanuts, or bubble wrap to ensure minimal damage to stockings during shipping.

Please do not ship in extra-large boxes and keep box weight to less than 40 pounds.

Participants (YOU) are responsible for any and all shipping costs to get the stockings to the address provided by Soldiers’ Angels. Please do not ship your stockings to Soldiers’ Angels Headquarters in San Antonio unless you are directed to do so by the coordinator.
